#BupaPlace: The Bupa Family

Summary

For some of our colleagues, celebrating the official opening of our new Bupa Place office in Salford Quays will be a family affair.

We’ve got a number of families who work together all under the Bupa roof. Here are their stories.

Helen Hughes, Customer Services Manager, has worked at Bupa for 30 years, her husband Ged joined 10 years ago and is in the Planning department. They also work alongside their daughter Nicola who joined the Sales team two years ago. Reflecting on her time at Bupa, Helen said, “I’ve seen many positive changes over the 30 years I’ve worked here, especially how we embrace new technologies to better serve our customers and as a way to reduce waste. It’s an end of an era to move office, I’m thrilled to see the positive impact it has on everyone’s wellbeing.”

They use the car sharing initiative to get to work, but after the day is done they have a ‘no work talk’ policy at home. “As soon as we get home, Ged changes out of his ‘work clothes’ , after that, it means there’s no more talk about work.” Helen laughs. “We love our jobs but we need to make sure we switch off from it during our down time.” she continued.

Mother and son duo Katie and Conor Duxbury both work in the Payroll team. Katie, who heads up the team joined the Bupa family in 2012. A year later Conor was invited to work for a week during his school break, he’s now been part of the team for five years. Conor explains: “My mum asked if I would like to earn some money over the summer, 2013. I was supposed to fill envelopes for a week, but that turned into six weeks. I kept coming back during my A-Level studies and then in March 2016, I offered to produce training material for Care Services. This gave me an opportunity to report to a project team and find my own niche. That’s when my career at Bupa really started.”

Katie says she’s very proud of the career path Conor has set himself on: “When Conor told me that he would like a career at Bupa, I had mixed feelings. I love working at Bupa and figured Conor would too, but initially thought that people may not give him a fair chance because of our relationship. However, he has built a great reputation through the quality of the work he produces. It has been a real privilege to see Conor grow in his confidence and skills first-hand.”

Bupa Place will be officially opened today (Thursday).
