BMA commends Bupa UK’s dementia information

Summary

The British Medical Association (BMA) has commended Bupa UK’s Dementia Hub as part of its annual Patient Information Awards.

The commendation means that the hub – Bupa UK’s online resource packed with useful information and practical tips for people affected by dementia – has been rated highly by the expert judging panel.

Members of Bupa UK’s Health Content Team and Care Services will attend the awards ceremony at BMA House later this month to collect a certificate.

Nick Ridgman, Head of Health Content at Bupa UK, said: “We worked closely with customers and focus groups to ensure we were providing truly supportive dementia information, so we’re very proud to have the quality of the information acknowledged by the BMA.”

Aileen Waton, Head of Dementia and Professional Standards at Bupa UK, said: “More and more of us are affected by dementia as the population ages, so it’s vital that Bupa offers comprehensive support in this area for our residents and customers, as well as their family members. The provision of accurate and reliable information is an important part of this and complements our services, so I am thrilled to see the BMA recognising the Dementia Hub in this way.”

Bupa supports a huge number of people living with dementia and those who care for them. An important way in which it enhances this support is through the provision of high-quality information, and the Dementia Hub was created with that in mind. It spans 26 web pages and features written articles, videos and personal stories about various aspects of coping with dementia.

All of the information has been approved by experts and created with input from people affected by dementia. One woman who looks after her mother said the hub “covers all the questions you would ask in the early stages”. A man caring for his father-in-law said the hub was “very clean, precise and uncluttered” and includes “a huge amount of information, but you wouldn’t know it at first – that’s a good thing”.

The Bupa UK Health Content Team is constantly looking to improve the information it provides about dementia. If you have any feedback or a personal story to share about dementia, please email Graham Pembrey at graham.pembrey@bupa.com
